First and foremost, we are a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregation.

That means that we believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.  We look to Jesus as the pioneer and perfector of our faith and we follow him as disciples of his way.  We believe that Jesus is the Good News of God’s love for the entire world who came to show all people love, mercy and forgiveness if they would believe and follow him.

We are a people of the Bible

Two of the early mottos of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) were: “Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent.” And “No creed but Christ; no book but the Bible.”  We believe that the Bible reveals the God we know in Jesus Christ to us and allows us to know, love, worship and serve God through Jesus Christ.  We strive to know and follow God’s will through the scriptures that have guided Christ’s followers of all ages.  We look to the scriptures to give us guidance on how we are to live our personal lives and order our community of faith.  We believe that the Bible will help lead faithful seekers to the abundant, new, everlasting life offered to us by God through Jesus Christ.  But we also believe that the Holy Spirit continues to guide us into God’s future as we open our hearts and souls to God.

We believe that the church of Jesus Christ is supposed to be one and so Christian unity is an important hope for our church.

As a denomination, we work in covenant with other denominations in aid and mission throughout the world.  Both nationally and locally, we strive for cooperative relationships with congregations of other denominations.  We would that the witness of Jesus Christ not be diluted by dissentions among his followers in the world.

We believe in baptism by immersion for the forgiveness of sins to be the Biblical model given to us.

As the Apostle Paul’s Letter to the Romans states: “. . . all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death. . . . we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.  For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.  We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.”  Romans 6:3-6

Our belief in Christian Unity calls us to accept that baptism by other methods by other denominations to be their faithful response to their understanding of God’s will.

We believe that gathering around the Table of our Lord Jesus Christ to celebrate communion (Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper) is an important part of a Christian’s walk of faith, and so we celebrate this time together whenever we worship.

We remember Christ as we take the bread and the cup.  We celebrate his work on behalf of all humanity.  We look to the time when God will rule on earth as in heaven.  We remember that the early followers, as described in the Book of the Acts of the Apostles: “. . . devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”  Acts 2:42

We believe in the ministry of all believers.

When we accept Christ’s call to follow him, we are commissioned to go into all the world to share the Good News of God’s love in Jesus Christ.  Each individual is uniquely gifted by God to enable the church of Jesus Christ to witness to Christ and his offer of God’s love and to encourage one another in our walk with God.

We further believe that each individual needs to open the Bible.

....to read the Scriptures on a regular basis and to discuss what is read with other believers in order to grow in their understanding and faith in Jesus Christ and the God who loves us.

As members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we face the challenge to express our beliefs in a way that is a helpful guidance for believers without becoming a new set of rules and regulations, musts and oughts.

We desire to both guide faith and provide for individual discovery to encourage inclusiveness, and to become enriched by diversity.  We face the challenge of expressing typical beliefs and practices of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in a way that invites discussion which leads to understanding and deeper faith.
